This unique day begins from Siena’s San Domenico Basilica at 9:00am. Here you will meet your friendly guide and hop on to a comfortable minivan. We will head out of town southward to meet our truffle hunter and his dogs, before heading off across forests and fields in search of the elusive mushrooms, the special “Marzuolo”, Spring truffle. After a hunt of around one and a half hours we continue to our next stop of the day.
Here we will be greeted by Cristiana and her mom who will be our hosts for a fun and casual cooking class. We will visit the vegetable garden to see what is fresh at this time of year then roll up our sleeves to get stuck in to kneading dough, chopping vegetables and cooking our full Tuscan meal.
At this point it’s time to eat! Weather permitting, we will sit outside and enjoy the meal you prepared accompanied by local wines, the chirping of birds and the jovial conversation with your warm hosts.
After a morning of hunting, munching, swirling and tasting, it is time to stretch the legs again… Hop back on to the van for a short drive to visit a historic ex-monastery, , Certosa in Pontignano. Set among vineyards and olive groves it is a spectacular place, where nature and history combine. Visit the beautiful cloister with its renaissance gardens and XIV century well and see the exquisite, fully frescoed choir, a small little known masterpiece that will leave you in awe.
Finally, continue to a small family run winery for a tour of the cellars and the vineyards and enjoy a guided tasting of the estate’s Chianti and Supertuscan wines in the company of the winemaker. We will be a small group of just eight guests so do book early to avoid missing out!
