Val d'Orcia Full Day Bike Tour

Your meeting point is at the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena at 8:30am, easy to find even if you are arriving from out of town or with your own car as there is parking in the vicinity. Here you will meet the driver guide for the start of the tour.

We head out of town to the UNESCO heritage site of the Val D’orcia valley where you come across some of Tuscany’s most famous postcard pictures. Arrive to San Biagio, our starting point, where your guide will show and guide you through this beautiful unique village close to one of the biggest of the Tuscan hill towns Montepulciano, before providing you with the bikes and all the information about them. You will ride along the hills overlooking the amazing views of the Tuscany - Umbria border.
You will later go to Monticchiello which is a typical medieval village right in the Sienese countryside. Here you will have the chance to see two beautiful churches: the Church of San Leonardo and Cristoforo in Romanesque-Gothic style and the one of Santa Maria allo Spino. You will also see the Cassero Tower that dominates the hamlet.

After Monticchiello, you will enjoy a guided tasting of local organic cheese, the pecorino, in a local dairy farm. Here you can learn about the cheese making processes, visit the farms animals and learn about the lifestyle of the area.

You will then arrive to the beautiful utopian renaissance town of Pienza, one of the first towns to be entirely planned out on paper, by important architects and artists of the time, called upon by Pope Pius II the humanist pope, to help him in renovating his native town and bringing it to new splendor. Pienza is rightly considered the gem of the renaissance in the Val d’Orcia. You will also have the opportunity of viewing the Romanesque church of Corsignano or spend your time shopping and enjoying the pretty alleys of this little town. Here you will be free to have lunch and decide whether to have a sandwich made with typical cold cuts or to eat a traditional Tuscan meal in a characteristic “trattoria”.

The next stop will be the unique and famous Bagno Vignoni, an Italian village and hamlet of San Quirico d'Orcia, situated on a hill above the Val d'Orcia in Tuscany. It is a popular tourist destination and well known for its hot springs. Thanks to the Via Francigena (which was the main route followed by pilgrims in antiquity who went to Rome), these thermal waters were found and have been used since Roman times. You will then be headed to S.Quirico, a large municipality inside the Valdorcia landscape, that is home to many beautiful churches and that offers beautiful views and unique landscapes.

The biking tour is suitable for anyone in good physical condition and with experience in pretty long rides. It is highly recommended you wear comfortable clothes and shoes, to bring water, a hat, sun cream.

The normal operation of the activity is subjected to weather condition. In case the tour had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, we will offer the choice to tour on an alternate date or receive full refund.
