Tuscan Wine School
This March, 2019 we opened our new wine school on Via di Stalloreggi, Siena (www.tuscanwineschool.com).
It is a treasure trove of the most beautiful Tuscan wines selected from the top producers and the best estates that we also visit on our tours. To find us, you must find the roaring panther. He waits for you atop a marble fountain right opposite our shop, a stones throw from the famous Duomo and at the entrance to the Contrada of the Panther.
This is a really exciting new venture because it gives us the space to welcome the thirsty, wine curious traveler and offer them the opportunity to learn in just a couple of hours about Tuscany’s finest wines and Siena’s culinary highlights. We are stocking all the wines that our guests taste on our sell out tours, and we will soon have an online shop to support the demand for those wines.
It is fun too because should you join us for a wine class here at the school in Siena, and find you love a wine you can book on a tour which takes you to the place of its origin, to the vineyard and winery itself, even to have lunch with winemaker at the winemakers table! And if that sounds appealing perhaps you might like to lengthen your trip to Tuscany and take a vacation with us, a wine “mini-break”. Our “Bacchus in Tuscany” tour is a 4 day, 3 night wine experience visiting wineries in all the key Tuscan wine regions and enjoying their wines.
“Tuscan Classics” is a two hour wine session held daily from 16:00 – 18:00 Monday through to Saturday. Our ‘classroom’ is decked out with all the things the wine student needs, a friendly, knowledgeable teacher, 6 excellent wines including Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, some tasty bites to accompany and emphasis certain qualities of each wine (Italians don’t drink without something to nibble!) and water for those who feel it necessary...
We begin with a short introduction on tasting technique to make sure we get the best from our glass. There is so much we can learn about the wine using this technique. There are so many clues to a wines character and place of origin if we study their colour, aroma, flavor and aftertaste. Then we will taste through Tuscany, the wines will be our guide, dictating their famous sites, their history, their legends.
Every other day – Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 12pm we begin our “Savor Siena” – a 2 hour tour for foodies – and wine fans. Savor Siena is a great way to get to know the city and its history through its traditional cuisine and culinary delights. Starting at the school we will venture through the streets of the city to sample some of the best products the local artisans have to offer. Your guide will also show you where the best snacks, the best restaurant meals and the best gelaterie can be found in town.
Come and visit us at the Tuscan wine School to swirl, sniff, sip and savour the most excellent Tuscan wines and to “taste” Siena. All posts
