€145 per person dinner and all tastings included
Your meeting point is at the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena at 2:30pm, easy to find even if you are arriving from out of town. Here you will meet the driver guide for the start of the tour. This tour is ideal for those who wish to prolong their day past dinner or prefer a lie in and evening tour.
The tour begins in the afternoon with a drive through the Chianti. An area rich with dense oak wood forests and cypress trees, neat rows of vineyards and landscapes shaped into works of art by the combined action of nature and man. Arrive to Castellina in Chianti and enjoy a gelato as you walk through the town’s medieval walkway and village centre. From here we make our way to a Chianti wine estate, where we visit the grounds and the wine cellars and learn about the winemaking before sitting down to enjoy a tasting of Chianti Classio wine and olive oil.
We then descend to Monteriggioni, a medieval and perfectly preserved fortress with a complete ring of walls and turrets built in the 13th century and mentioned by Dante in his Devine Comedy. This was Siena’s main bastion of defense against the armies of Florence and today is a quiet and charming hamlet.
In the late afternoon we will finally arrive in San Gimignano, when hopefully the crowds of the day have left. Here we visit this beautiful and romantic town of towers at a leisurely pace. You then have personal time for entering the Cathedral or Civic museum, shopping in the many boutiques of artisanal manufactures such as leather and hand painted pottery, sampling the fruits of the soil in the food stores and wine bars, or spending your time exploring the town and its many hidden beauties. After San Gimignano we head out of town to an organic farm and enjoy a full Tuscan dinner with tastings of the famous white of San Gimignano, the Vernaccia and the red Chianti. Weather permitting, dinner will be served on a terrace overlooking the cultivated fields and the ‘skyline’ of San Gimignano during sunset.
This itinerary is available only from May to October when daylight hours are longer. During the rest of the year this tour is a daytime San Gimignano and Chianti tour with lunch, departure at 9:30am from Siena and a minimum of 4 participants.
