The arts in Siena in the early Renaissance. 26 Marzo - 10 Luglio 2010.
Opening 26 March, a major exhibition whose main venue is the Santa Maria della Scala complex, but offering visitors the chance to discover little-known places and works reassembled for this occasion.
An exhibition of 306 works, some twenty polyptychs reconstructed for this occasion, twenty-five restorations, loans from the world’s most prestigious museums and private collections, new spaces open to the public for the first time, ten essays written by the greatest international experts in the field, and an extraordinary exhibition itinerary that will take visitors through three of the city’s most evocative places that in some cases are hidden treasures: Siena is preparing the most important show ever attempted of the arts in the Early Renaissance.
Opening on March 26th is the show curated by Max Seidel, “From Jacopo della Quercia to Donatello. The Arts in Siena in the Early Renaissance.” Its main venue will be the Santa Maria della Scala museum complex, but it will take visitors on a special discovery tour of a Siena that, on a parallel path with Florence, experienced an extraordinary period in art which witnessed the transition from Gothic to the Renaissance.
The exhibition also offers the opportunity to learn and widen your knowledges of this period in history with itineraries on Siena's territory passing through: Asciano, Buonconvento, Montalcino, Pienza, Castiglione d'Orcia and Montepulciano. Don't miss this occasion for visiting the magnificent landscapes of Tuscany following the binding line of Art.
